Pennsylvania artist Glenn Harrington's rich and accomplished oil paintings seem to capture several time periods at once.

A young women in a flowing white dress is dancing through a forest, her hair garlanded with flowers as she clasps a long stalk of goldenrod. She is painted with sure, flowing brushwork that conveys air and movement, even as it describes form, texture, and the complex play of light. it is hard to tell exactly when the picture was painter: it looks to be from the late 1800s, but there is something about the girl's expression and the deft lightness of the painter's touch that makes it contemporary. This is Goldenrod, a work by the Pennsylvanian-based artists Glenn Harrington, whose rich and accomplished paintings seem to capture several time periods at once.

"Achieving a timeless quality in painting fascinates me," says Harrington. "I'm not interested in making bold political statements. I feel it is much more satisfying to stay connected to history in a manner not portrayed as nostalgic or sentimental.
