Glenn Harrington's love of nature shows up in his work, whether his inspiration come from Shakespeare, a Y. B. Yeats poem, or his own bucolic backyard. Perhaps because he grew up in a urban environment, Harrington's subtle, joyous, light-filled canvases are more interpretative than they are literal reproductions of what the eye can see. There are fascinating stories behind all of his work, but rather than telling them, he lets the painting stimulate the viewer's imagination. The artist was born in New York City in 1959, received a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute in 1981 and has resided in Bucks County for the past 17 years. he has worked extensively as an illustrator, including the creation for BBC Books of a series of paintings for Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Room With a View, Woman in Love, Dangerous Liaisons, Man and Superman, Mansfield Park and Silas Warner. The
Portrait Society conferred an Award on Harrington in 2004, and Communications
Arts Magazine presented him with a Certificate of Merit in 2002.
His work appeared in "The figure in American Art" at the
Eleanor Ettinger Gallery in New York City in 2004, and in 2003 he
was selected to present his work at Ettinger's Sixth Annual Summer
Salon. He has had solo exhibits at the Travis Gallery in New Hope,
Pennsylvania, the Cassique Club on Kiawah Island, South Carolina,
and has participated in group shows at the Wells Gallery in Charleston,
South Carolina, the Phillips Mill Juried Exhibition, the Art Institute
of Houston, Towson State University in Baltimore, the art Directors
Club in New York City, the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine,
Florida, and numerous other venues. more... |
